50 women in the first list of Congress

New Delhi. Congress General Secretary and in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has started the work of giving 40 percent of Congress tickets for the assembly elections to women as promised. Priyanka on Thursday released the first list of 125 candidates, of which 50 are women. The list also contains the name of the mother of the rape victim of Unnao and the name of Sadaf Zafar, who agitated against the amended Citizenship Act ie CAA and went to jail.

Priyanka has fielded Unnao rape victim’s mother from Unnao. Ritu Singh, the victim of Lakhimpur Cheer Haran case, has been given ticket from Mohammadi seat. Asha worker Poonam Pandey, who agitated for honorarium in Shahjahanpur, has also been made a candidate. Pankhuri Pathak has been fielded from Noida, adjoining Delhi, while Archana Gautam, popularly known as Bikini Girls, has been fielded from Hastinapur. Archana won the title of Miss Bikini in 2018.

While releasing the first list of candidates, Priyanka Gandhi said- Our list of candidates is a new message. Along with 40 percent women, 40 percent youth have also been kept. We hope that through them we will do a new kind of politics. Some of the women Congress has given tickets, some are journalists, some are actresses. Such women are also included in the list of social service women, who have struggled and have been tortured. The names of Pramod Tiwari’s daughter Aradhana Mishra Mona and Salman Khurshid’s wife Louise Khurshid have also been announced.

Congress has given tickets to 50 women. Most of them belong to the Dalit community. 36% of this community are women. After this, 20-20 percent women of backward and Brahmin caste have been given tickets. In addition, 12 per cent of the women candidates belong to the Muslim community. However, out of a total of 125 candidates, the Congress has fielded the highest number of upper castes and especially Brahmin candidates.
