Kapil calls Indian team ‘chokers’

Legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev has termed the current Indian team as ‘chokers’ after suffering a crushing 10-wicket loss to England in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. In sports, ‘chokers’ are called such teams that fail to win important matches. In the last six World Cups, the Indian team has been out of the tournament for the fifth time after losing in the knockout stage.

Kapil told ‘ABP News’, ‘I will not criticize in too strong words because these are the same players who have given us a chance to celebrate in the past but yes, we can call them chokers. He is alright. There will be no denying that we are going to lose after coming so close.” India’s 1983 World Cup winning captain, however, said fans should not criticize the team’s performance in the semifinals. He said, “I agree, India played bad cricket, but we cannot be overly critical on the basis of just one match. ,

He said, “Look, now that the match is over, it is unfair that we should criticize the Indian team strongly. They didn’t play well and the criticism is justified. But as far as this match is concerned, England read the pitch better and played better cricket.” India last won an ICC tournament in 2013 when they defeated England in the final of the Champions Trophy.

The team has since qualified for the knockout stages of the 2014 T20 World Cup (Final), 2015 ODI World Cup (Semi-Final), 2016 T20 World Cup (Semi-Final), 2017 Champions Trophy (Final), 2019 ODI World Cup (Semi-Final) . Along with this, the team also lost in the final of the 2021 World Test Championship and the 2022 T20 World Cup (semi-final).
