Aaron Finch of Australia said goodbye to international cricket
Melbourne. Aaron Finch, Australia’s most successful T20 international batsman and captain who won the T20 World Cup in 2021, said goodbye to international cricket on Tuesday. The 36-year-old Finch, however, will continue to feature in the Big Bash League and domestic T20 matches. Cricket Australia tweeted, “Aaron Finch, our World Cup winner and longest serving T20 captain, has decided to retire from the game. Thank you Aaron Finch for your contribution. Finch’s retirement from international cricket was believed to be certain. He also said goodbye to ODI cricket last year and played the last Test in 2018.
Under his captaincy, Australia won the T20 World Cup 2021 by defeating New Zealand in Dubai. Last year, however, the Australian team could not reach the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup on their own soil. Finch also played in his last T20 match in the same tournament when he scored 63 in Australia’s 42-run win over Ireland. Finch told reporters here, “I will not be able to play till the 2024 T20 World Cup, so now is the right time for me to step back so that the team can think about the future.” Finch scored 278 runs in five Tests for Australia, Scored 5406 runs in 146 ODIs and scored 3120 runs in 103 T20s, including two centuries and 19 half-centuries.
Since making his international debut in January 2011, he has scored 8804 runs across all formats including 17 ODI hundreds and two T20 hundreds. He captained Australia in a record 76 T20 matches. He also holds the record for the highest individual score in T20 cricket when he scored 172 off 76 balls against Zimbabwe in Harare in 2018. Finch was also in the Australian team that won the 2015 ICC ODI World Cup.

He said, “You play only for the success of the team. Winning the T20 World Cup and getting the ODI World Cup on home soil are the golden memories of my career. It is an honor to play for Australia for 12 years and to play against the greatest players. He said that he would continue to play franchise cricket. He said, “Hopefully I will be able to play The Hundred in Britain.” He will also do commentary during the IPL and the ODI World Cup in India.
