Action against 16 YouTube channels, blocked due to anti-national content, 6 Pakistani channels also included

According to the information, these YouTube channels were spreading false, unverified information to create panic, incite communal disharmony and disturb public order in India. The channels that have been banned had more than 68 crore viewers.

The government is constantly taking strict steps on the YouTube channel spreading propaganda against India. In this episode, today the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has blocked 16 YouTube channels spreading propaganda related to national security, foreign relations and public order. Of these, 10 are Indian channels while six are Pakistani channels. 10 Indian and 6 Pakistan-based YouTube channels have been blocked by using emergency powers under the IT Rules, 2021.

According to the information, these YouTube channels were spreading false, unverified information to create panic, incite communal disharmony and disturb public order in India. The channels that have been banned had more than 68 crore viewers. However, this is not the first time that action has been taken against such YouTube channels. Earlier this month, on April 5, 18 Indian and four Pakistani news channels were shut down.

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur had said that the government will not back down from taking such action in future also. From 2021 till now, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has closed 94 YouTube-based news channels and many other social media accounts on grounds of national security, India’s unity and integrity, threat to public order, etc. The banned content, including anti-India content, was posted through social media accounts coordinated with Pakistan.
