Admiral Karambir Singh retires, Admiral R Hari Kumar takes over as 25th Chief of the Indian Naval Staff

New Delhi: Admiral R Hari Kumar on Tuesday took over as the new Chief of the Indian Navy after the incumbent Admiral Karambir Singh retired from service. Admiral R Hari Kumar took over as the 25th Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) from outgoing Chief Admiral Karambir Singh, who retired on superannuation after more than 41 years of service. Admiral Kumar served as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command before taking over the reins of the force. (Admiral Karambir Singh retires)

Also commanded the aircraft carrier INS Viraat

Born on 12 April 1962, Admiral Kumar was commissioned into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy on 1 January 1983. During his long and distinguished service of nearly 39 years, the Admiral has served in various command, staff and instructional appointments. Admiral Kumar’s Maritime Command includes INS Nishank, Missile Corvette INS Kora and Guided-Missile Destroyer INS Ranvir. He also commanded the Indian Navy’s aircraft carrier INS Viraat. The admiral also served as the Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet.

Prior to taking over as FOC-in-C, Western Naval Command, he was the Chief of Integrated Staff Committee, Integrated Defense Staff, Headquarters. Admiral Kumar has done courses from Naval War College, US, Army War College, Mhow and Royal College of Defense Studies, UK. He has been decorated with Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM). (Admiral Karambir Singh retires)
