Rohit can be rested for one or two matches if he is in rhythm: Boucher
Mumbai Mumbai Indians head coach Mark Boucher on Wednesday said that he would have no problem in resting Rohit Sharma during the league stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL) provided the captain manages to find form with the bat. Mumbai Indians will be desperate to bounce back after a poor show last year. The team had finished last in the 10-team IPL last season. Mumbai Indians will start this season against Royal Challengers Bangalore on 2nd April. With Rohit leading the Indian team during the World Cup to be held in October-November this year, the focus will be on the management of the players and especially Rohit’s workload.
When Rohit was asked at a press conference here about resting a few matches, he deflected the question to Boucher. Boucher said, “Talking about resting Rohit, he is the captain. Hopefully he will be in great form during this time. Hopefully don’t want to rest, but whatever the situation is, we will work accordingly. Rohit didn’t score a single fifty in the last season. He could only score 268 runs at an average of 19.14 during this period. “If I can get the best out of him as a captain and as a player, it will be great and that means if he wants to rest for a game or two, I will do that,” Boucher said. There will be no problem in this.

On the ‘Impact’ player rule being implemented from this season of IPL, Rohit said that this will not reduce the role of all-rounder. “I don’t know whether it will affect an all-rounder or not because an all-rounder will always be an all-rounder.
