Agarwal’s half-century, Karnataka scored 137 runs for two wickets

Captain Mayank Agarwal scored an unbeaten 87 as Karnataka posted 137 for two at stumps in reply to Kerala’s first innings score of 342 on the second day of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group C match here on Wednesday. Kerala started the game at 224 for six and the home team was bowled out for 118 runs thanks to a crucial half-century from veteran Jalaj Saxena (57 runs). Sachin Baby extended last night’s innings of 113 to 141 before becoming the second victim of leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal.

This was Baby’s third century in the current Ranji season. Baby and Saxena were dismissed before Kerala reached 300 runs. Captain S Joseph (24 runs) took the team to 342 runs with the help of number 11 batsman Nidhish MD (22 runs, two fours, one six). Running out of the Indian Test team, Agarwal (four fours, three sixes) then shared an 89-run partnership for the second wicket with Devdutt Padikkal (29 runs), playing cautiously after the early dismissal of opener R Samarth (0). Laid a good foundation for the visiting team.

Karnataka’s team is still trailing Kerala by 205 runs according to the first innings. In Puducherry, Jharkhand scored 250 for the loss of three wickets in the first innings thanks to half-centuries from Saurabh Tiwary (58) and Virat Singh. Virat Singh is present at the crease after scoring 79 runs. Earlier, Puducherry were bundled out for 231 for which KB Arun Karthik (68) and Paras K Dogra (68) scored half-centuries.

Goa reached 281 for five at stumps in reply to Army’s first innings total of 175 in New Delhi. In this way, Goa has achieved the lead of the first innings. Manthan Khutkar (82 runs), KD Eknath (85 not out) and Darshan Misal (58 not out) scored half-centuries for him. In Jodhpur, Rajasthan team was bowled out for 360 runs in the first innings thanks to a century by dedicated Joshi (123 runs) and in reply, Chhattisgarh had lost nine wickets for 198 runs in 77 overs till stumps.
