Archery World Cup: India wins gold in compound mixed team

Antalya. Jyoti Surekha Vennam and her partner Ojas Deotale opened India’s account by winning the compound mixed team gold medal in the first leg of the World Cup Archery, defeating Chinese Taipei 159-154 here on Saturday. This is India’s second gold medal in the World Cup in the mixed compound event.

Earlier, Jyoti and Abhishek Verma won the gold medal in the third stage of the World Cup in 2022 in Paris. Despite the absence of Verma, who failed to make it to the team at the national trials, the Indian pair produced a stellar performance, hitting 15 out of 16 targets to comfortably beat their 12th seeded opponents in a one-sided final.

The second seeded Indian pair of Jyoti and 20-year-old Deotale lost just one point, otherwise the score would have been 160 out of 160. Jyoti and Deotale shot consecutive ‘perfect 10s’ and soon took the lead 120-116. Even after this, he continued his good performance and easily secured the first position.
