Argentina had its worst performance in a Unesco learning assessment

The pandemic brought a lot of concern about the impact on children’s education. But the truth is that the educational crisis was already noticeable before: third and sixth grade students surrendered below the average for Latin America and the Caribbean in four of the five subjects evaluated by a Unesco test, the Regional Comparative and Explanatory Study (ERCE), in 2019.
In 13 years, between 2006 and 2019, the country went from being above the region’s average in Mathematics and Reading to be below average in those two disciplines plus Natural Sciences.
