Army Day: Indian Army unfurls the world’s largest Khadi national flag in Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer: As a part of the 74th Army Day celebrations, the Commemorative National Flag, the world’s largest national flag made of Khadi, was displayed on the India-Pakistan border in Longewala, Rajasthan on Saturday. Longewala was the focal point of the 1971 war between India and Pakistan. Southern Command unveiled the 225 feet x 150 feet size flag at Jaisalmer Military Station. 4500 meters of hand-spun, hand-woven Khadi cotton bunting has been used in making the flag, which covers a total area of ​​33,750 square feet. The diameter of the Ashoka Chakra in the flag is 30 feet. Its weight is about 1,400 kg. Manufactured by Khadi Diors and Printers, the flag is a fitting tribute to Indian heritage as it is made of hundred percent Khadi material, the Army said in an official statement. ( khadi flag )

Flag hoisting as the elixir of freedom

Flag hoisting is celebrated on the 75th year of India’s independence as the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence. GOC 12 Rapid unveiled the national flag among select dignitaries who were among the attendees. The monumental national flag is prominently displayed and is clearly visible from a distance of several kilometres. The Army said that this commemorative flag reflects the pride and aspiration of the people of our country, with an aim to weave all citizens in support of the spirit of pride and nationalism. The flag hoisting was followed by the performance of the national anthem and military band. This initiative of the Army is being widely appreciated for inculcating the feeling of patriotism among the citizens of the border area.

Fifth public display of the national flag (khadi flag)

According to the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, this is the fifth public display of the national flag since its unveiling in Leh on October 2, 2021. It was later displayed at Hindon Airbase on the occasion of Air Force Day. On October 8, 2021 and at the Red Fort on October 21, 2021, which completed 100 crore COVID-19 vaccinations in India.
