Arshdeep in race for ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year award

India’s left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh was on Wednesday nominated for the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Emerging Cricketer of the Year award along with Marco Jansen, Finn Allen and Ibrahim Zadran. The ICC said in a release that voting for these awards will begin in January. Arshdeep has been nominated for the award less than six months after making his international debut. The fast bowler has taken 33 wickets in 21 T20 Internationals at an average of 18.12.

Arshdeep has been successful in getting wickets with both the new and the old ball. After impressive performances in the Indian Premier League, Arshdeep has also done well for India, who are looking to bounce back after the 2021 T20 World Cup disappointment. Arshdeep also made his ODI debut during India’s tour of New Zealand recently. Arshdeep has produced some memorable performances in a short span of time in international cricket, including an impressive performance in a high-pressure T20 World Cup match against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Arshdeep sent both Pakistan openers captain Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan to the pavilion thanks to his pace and swing. The fast bowler returned to bowling in the death overs and dismissed Asif Ali as well, taking three wickets for 32 runs in the match. Arshdeep will be challenged for the award by South African left-arm pacer Jenson, New Zealand opener Allen and Afghanistan batsman Zadran.
