Ashwin backs Shami, asks why so much hesitation about ‘Mankading’

India’s star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin says it is surprising to see that there are so many “objections” to the method of “marking” dismissals and asked why bowlers are always treated differently. Veteran Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami tried to run out Dasun Shanaka at the non-striker’s end during the opening ODI in Guwahati on January 10 when the batsman had stepped out of the crease.

However, Indian captain Rohit Sharma intervened and withdrew Shami’s appeal, allowing Shanaka to complete his century as he was on 98 at the time of the appeal. Ashwin is a vocal supporter of dismissals in this manner and on Saturday he supported Shami saying that it is the job of the umpire to declare the batsman out. Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, “Definitely the run-out by Shami, when Shanaka was on 98, Shami ran him out at the ‘non-striker’ end and appealed for it.Rohit withdrew that appeal. Soon after that so many people tweeted about it. ,

He said, “I will always repeat the same thing. The state of the game doesn’t matter. This is a valid way of getting out. During the post-match press conference, Rohit said that he had withdrawn the appeal against Shanaka because the Sri Lankan captain was on 98. Shanaka later remained unbeaten on 108 as Sri Lanka lost the match by 67 runs. Ashwin said, “If you appeal for lbw appeal or caught behind wicket, no one asks the captain whether he is sure about this appeal or not. ,

He said, “If the bowler appeals, they will give him out and the matter is over. See if even one fielder appeals, it is the duty of the umpire to give the player out, if he is out. “Ashwin said,” That’s why it surprises me to see so much hesitation about getting him out in this manner (Mankading). But the whole way of getting out depends on what the bowler does, right? ,

He said, “So the method of dismissal or appeal or decide, it depends on the bowler only. “Ashwin said,” In many matches, a batsman touches the bat and starts returning to the pavilion without waiting for the umpire’s decision. He said, “At that time, the captain of the batting team does not come and ask, ‘With whose permission did you leave the crease and walk towards the pavilion? Have you forgotten the team? Go back and keep playing”. “Ashwin said,” There have been so many different types of behavior for bowlers and batsmen over the years.
