Bad condition of national level athlete, for just Rs 500 he has to do night duty in freezing cold

The condition of an athlete who has won several medals at the national level is such that he is forced to work in a cold store in the freezing cold of Delhi. Rahul, must have heard the name but the condition is such that hardly anyone has seen. Rahul, an athlete who has won several medals at the national level, works in cold stores to load milk packets into trucks to earn a living.

 

Delhi’s winters are harsh but for 25-year-old Rahul, it is a little harsher. The Delhi winter is a bit more painful for Rahul, a long and middle distance athlete. Rahul, who won many medals and brought laurels to Delhi and the country, since the age of 14, that is, for the last 11 years, he has been working in the night shift in the cold store of a dairy in West Delhi, loading milk packets into trucks. His shift is from 10 pm to 6 am. He continues to work in this shift. After working in the cold store all night in the cold, he goes to the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the morning for his training. However, Rahul says that he needs a day job so that he can focus on his training.

 

He has only one room to stay where he does not have any cupboard on which he can keep his medals and trophies. His trophy is kept in a rusted trunk. Rahul says that at present all his accumulated capital is only medals.

 

The working conditions in this cold store are tough and harsh. Working here is like walking into an open freezer. My hands and feet go numb while working here but I have no other option but to work here. Please tell that in the year 2017, Rahul had won the U-20 bronze medal in the cross-country nationals. About five feet tall, Rahul pushes the carats of milk into the cart. He told that it is very difficult to do loading work in this cold store. If attention is lost even for a moment, there is every possibility of injury from the metal cart.

Please tell that Rahul basically belongs to Shikharpur of Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. He told that initially he lived with his brother in Uttar Pradesh for some time but the brother was not able to take care of him. After this, at the age of 13, he somehow reached Bangla Sahib Gurdwara. Here he spent his life by staying for about eight months and eating food in the langar. He told that many times he used to cook food for the people in the langar. While living in the Gurudwara, Rahul also continued his studies. Along with studies, got a chance to work in milk dairy.

 

Let us tell you that Rahul is paid only Rs 500 for each day for doing risky work in the cold store in the cold overnight. Not only this, they are paid only for the day they work. Payment is also not given for non-availability of work.

 

Amidst difficult circumstances, Rahul started training with the landlord’s son. Thanks to this training, Rahul won the bronze medal in the 10 kilometer under-20 race for the first time in the year 2016. He continued to do very well in the game. Under the sports quota, Rahul got a chance to work in Ramjas College of Delhi University. However, he could not deposit the fees and had to leave the college.
