Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir in Vijay Hazare Trophy knockouts from Group D

Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir entered the Group D knockout stage of the Vijay Hazare Trophy with comfortable victories over their rivals here on Wednesday. Punjab beat Nagaland by six wickets while Jammu and Kashmir beat Uttarakhand by nine wickets. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, the Nagaland team was bundled out for just 145 runs in 48.5 overs. Wicket-keeper batsman Chetan Bisht scored the highest 47 runs in 89 balls. Shrikant Munde scored 24 while Joshua Ozukum scored 20 runs.

Punjab’s spin trio of Mayank Markandey (3/20), Abhishek Sharma (3/31) and Gaurav Chaudhary (2/31) took eight wickets. In response, Punjab achieved the target in 29.3 overs with Anmolpreet Singh’s innings of 65 runs while Anmol Malhotra’s unbeaten 35 runs. For Nagaland, Rongsen Jonathan took three wickets for 44 runs.

In another match at the Wankhede Stadium, Uttarakhand scored 251 for five against Jammu and Kashmir with Priyanshu Khanduri’s 97, Swapnil Singh’s 61 and Dikshanshu Negi’s 52 not out. Right-arm fast bowler Aaqib Nabi took three wickets for 48 runs for Jammu and Kashmir. In response, Jammu and Kashmir achieved the target in 42.2 overs thanks to Vivrant Sharma’s unbeaten 154 off 124 balls and Shubham Khajuria’s 71 runs. In another Group D match, Madhya Pradesh trounced Baroda by 290 runs at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
