Pakistan is opposing the shifting of Asia Cup to Sri Lanka, may boycott the tournament

The controversy regarding Asia Cup 2023 is not taking its name. Pakistan was to host it but after the withdrawal of many cricket boards including India, the neighboring country has suffered a major setback. The news is that the Asia Cup may be shifted to Sri Lanka. However, Pakistan is opposing it. According to sources, it is being told from Pakistan side that if their proposal is not accepted by the Asian Cricket Council, then they can seriously consider boycotting the regional tournament. That means Pakistan is threatening to stay out of the Asia Cup. Now Pakistan is constantly talking about holding the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Pakistan Cricket Board chief Najam Sethi met Asian Cricket Council officials in Dubai on Tuesday and objected to the move to shift the Asia Cup to Sri Lanka instead of the UAE. Sethi has insisted that the ACC should accept Pakistan’s revised hybrid model proposal program for the Asia Cup and if majority members want it to be held elsewhere then it should be held in UAE like in 2018 and 2022. Sources said Sethi dismissed BCCI’s concerns including telling the ACC that it would be too hot to play in the UAE in September. Pak said that the BCCI had organized its IPL from September to November 2020 in the UAE.

The PCB was forced to propose an alternative after the BCCI refused to send the Indian team to the neighboring country due to diplomatic tensions between the two countries. The PCB had proposed a ‘hybrid model’ in which India would play their matches in the UAE while Pakistan would host their matches on home soil. In a major blow to Pakistan, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Monday decided to move the Asia Cup out of the country as the PCB’s (Pakistan Cricket Board) proposal to host the tournament on a ‘hybrid model’ was rejected by the member nations. Rejected.
