David Warner out of last two Tests against India due to elbow injury

New Delhi. Out-of-form Australia opener David Warner was on Tuesday ruled out of the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to a fractured elbow, dealing a blow to the visitors. Warner will go to Sydney to recover from the injury but is expected to return to India for the three-match ODI series after the four-match Test series. The ODI series begins on March 17 in Mumbai. “David Warner has been ruled out of the Test tour of India and will return home,” Cricket Australia (CA) said in a statement.According to the statement, “Warner suffered an elbow injury in the second Test in Delhi and suffered a hairline fracture. Further investigation revealed that he will have to undergo rehabilitation due to which he will not be able to play in the rest of the Test series.

It said, “It is currently anticipated that he will return to India for the three ODIs after the Test series.” Warner was replaced by Matthew Renshaw in the second innings of the Second Test due to a head injury (a state similar to unconsciousness). The left-handed batsman was also hit on the hand by a ball before being hit on the helmet and suffered a hairline fracture on his elbow.The left-handed batsman has been able to score only 26 runs in three innings of two Tests. Australia trail 0-2 in the four-Test series after losing the first two Tests. Travis Head, who replaced Warner to open the innings in Australia’s second innings in New Delhi, is expected to open with Usman Khawaja in the third Test starting March 1 in Indore.

Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has already been ruled out of the series due to injury. Fast bowlers Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green, who are recovering from finger injuries, also did not play in the first two Tests. Although Green is expected to be fit to play in Indore.
