Border is still in shock after Head was dropped from Nagpur Test
Australian cricket great Allan Border still cannot understand why middle-order batsman Travis Head was left out of the playing XI against India in Nagpur, where they suffered an innings and 132-run defeat over three days. Head has been in scintillating form since the 2021-22 Ashes series. Australia won the five-Test series 4–0 in which he was named the ‘Player of the Series’.
He was the second highest run-getter during the recent three-Test series against South Africa. In this Australia won 2-0. Border said that the Australian team was ‘over-thinking’ about their strategy and did not include Head in the squad for the Nagpur Test because of his poor form in the previous tours of Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Border told ‘Sen Radio’ on Thursday, “I think he (head) must have been injured.” I can’t believe that Head has been thrown out. He didn’t play well last time in India and also in Sri Lanka. ,
“That could be the case, but you do improve and Travis Head is one of those players who has improved and he showed that over the summer,” he said. Border said that the Australian team made a very wrong selection for the Nagpur match. He said, “I think we over-thought a few things, thinking a bit too much about the pitch. That’s what you expect when you go there, they planned and the team got it wrong in the very first game.
