Brook named ICC men’s player of the month, Gardner best women’s player

England batsman Harry Brook on Monday beat India’s Ravindra Jadeja and West Indies’ Gudakesh Moti to win the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) men’s player of the month award while Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner won the women’s category. Brook was named player of the month for the second time following his stellar performance in the Test series against New Zealand. He is only the second player, including Pakistan’s Babar Azam, to win the player of the month award twice.

Gardner has been selected for the award for the second time after her impressive performance during Australia’s title win in the recent ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Earlier in December last year too, he was adjudged the best player of the month. The ICC said in the release that the results of the best player award for the month of February are the same as in December 2022 and even then Brook and Gardner had won these awards for the first time. Gardner received the award for her stellar performance during the successful title defense campaign during the Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa.

Apart from taking regular wickets in the tournament, he also scored crucial runs and cemented his status as the world’s number one T20 all-rounder. Gardner was also voted player of the tournament. Brook was also selected for the award for the second time after his good performances in all formats of international cricket. He performed brilliantly for England in the Test series against New Zealand.

Gardner and Brook were declared the winners after global polling among media representatives, Hall of Fame inductees, former international players and fans registered on ‘ICC-cricket.com’. Gardner said, “The T20 World Cup was a great tournament and it was an incredible experience to play hosts South Africa in the final in front of a packed stadium at Newlands. Our Australian team is fortunate to have many world class players.

I am delighted that I have been able to contribute to my team’s success during the World Cup.” After being selected for the award, Brook said: “It’s been a great start to the year and I hope we can continue to win the Ashes and India will be able to win the 50-over World Cup and I will be a part of both the teams.
