Celebrations banned in Delhi

New Delhi. The state government has banned Christmas and New Year celebrations in the national capital amid rising cases of the new variant of the coronavirus, Omicron. The Delhi government on Wednesday ordered that bars and cinema halls will also open with 50 per cent capacity. Apart from this, gathering of crowd and organizing cultural programs have also been banned. The decision in this regard was taken in a day-long meeting of Delhi Disaster Management Authority, DDMA.

After the decision of DDMA, Delhi Police and administration have been instructed to strictly follow the orders. It is worth noting that after Maharashtra, Delhi has got the highest number of Omicron cases. Cases of delta virus of corona have also started increasing in Delhi. On Wednesday, 125 cases of corona have been registered in Delhi within 24 hours. This is the highest in the last six months. For the third consecutive day on Wednesday, the number of infected in Delhi is above one hundred. Before this, the last time the number of infected was above a hundred was on June 25.

At present there are 624 active cases of corona in Delhi. This is the highest in the last five months. The rate of infection in the capital has increased to 0.20 percent. However, the good thing is that the recovery rate in Delhi is 98.21 percent. The Delhi government has ordered genome sequencing of samples of every infected found in the capital so that Omicron patients can be detected in time. Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said on Wednesday that the capital has the capacity for genome sequencing of four to five hundred samples. Genome sequencing of all corona infected has started from Wednesday.
