Chandimal said that Suryakumar Yadav is surprised that he is not in India’s ODI team

Former Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal on Friday expressed surprise over Suryakumar Yadav not being included in the Indian ODI XI, saying such an aggressive batsman can turn an entire match in an innings of 30 to 50 runs. Chandimal, who scored nearly 5000 runs (4936) in 157 ODIs for Sri Lanka, said, “It shows how much talent is there in Indian cricket. I still feel that Suryakumar Yadav can be a part of the ODI team. In the third and deciding T20 International against Sri Lanka, Suryakumar ensured the team’s victory by playing a century.

His unbeaten 112 off 51 balls helped India beat Sri Lanka by a huge margin of 91 runs in the decider to win the three-match series 2–1. Chandimal, who is representing the Desert Vipers team in the International League T20 (ILT20) being played in the United Arab Emirates, said, “A player like Suryakumar Yadav can put the opponent team in trouble with an innings of 30 to 50 runs.” His speed of scoring runs makes a lot of difference, it makes the job of other players in the team easier.

Sri Lanka are trailing 0-2 in the three-match ODI series after losing the T20I series and will play their last match on January 15. Chandimal expressed hope that the team would end the tour on a good note by playing positive cricket. He said, “It is not easy to play against India on their home soil. But I would like our players to play positive cricket. Bat with a positive attitude and bowl with a positive attitude. ,

Chandimal said that a league like ILT20 would also benefit players who are not part of the national team. The former captain, who played his last T20 International in February last year and ODI in November, said, “Players can return to the national team by doing well in this league.” It is a good platform to showcase your skills to the world.” Chandimal expressed surprise that his national team captain Dasun Shanaka was not bid for by any franchise in the Indian Premier League auction.

He said, “This surprised me. He is the kind of player who can turn the tide of a match in the shortest format. I hope that some team will join him in future. Shanaka scored an unbeaten 108 in the opening ODI of the current series against India. He had done well with ball and bat in the earlier T20 series as well. In the second T20 International, he took two wickets for four runs after scoring an unbeaten 56 as Sri Lanka won the match by 16 runs.
