Chappell not in favor of lifting ban on Warner’s captaincy, says he is past the age of leadership

Melbourne. Legendary batsman Ian Chappell believes that there is no point in lifting the life ban imposed on David Warner for captaincy as he is now past the age of captaincy. Chappell said that if Warner had been given the captaincy at the right time, he would have been a better captain. He told Channel Nine’s ‘Wide World of Sports’ program, “What will happen if Cricket Australia lifts the ban on Warner from captaincy.” They are not going to make Warner the captain of any Australian team. He is past his age.” He said, “The captain should be young so that he can lead from the front.”

The former Australia captain believes that Warner wants the ban lifted because he aspires to captain Sydney Thunders in the Big Bash League. He said, “David wants to captain the BBL team. He has been a very good captain for Sydney Thunders. That’s why he would want to get the ban lifted.” Regarding Cricket Australia’s stand on this whole matter, he said, “Cricket Australia doesn’t do anything in the interest of the players. It keeps on trying to save itself. This case is another example of that.
