Chennai to host the Squash World Cup in 2023

World Squash Federation (WSF) President Jenna Wooldridge said on Sunday that Chennai will host the Squash World Cup in a new form in 2023. He also said that the city may also host the 2025 World Cup stage. The revamped World Cup will be held in 2023 after several years of agreement with the Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI). Speaking on the sidelines of the WSF’s conference and general annual meeting here, Wooldridge said the World Cup, which has not been held since 2011, could now possibly be a mixed team tournament.

“We have got the support to bring the new World Cup to Chennai. We used to have it (World Cup) earlier but it has not been held since 2011. Now this will be in reverse form, with the plan being to make it a mixed team event. We are yet to decide on the qualification criteria. He also said that apart from the World Cup, the WSF is also looking at hosting a world doubles tournament in the city in 2024. “India is an important place and a key partner of the World Squash Federation with a strong track record of supporting the WSF,” said Wooldridge.
