According to sources in the BCCI (Indian Cricket Board), Chetan Sharma’s outgoing selection committee will pick two limited-overs Indian squads for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka starting January 3 as the new panel will not be decided in a week. . It is expected that the interviews of the candidates shortlisted by the Cricket Advisory Committee (CSC) to choose the members of the selection committee will be held between December 26 and 28. A BCCI source aware of this said on the condition of confidentiality, “The old selection committee will probably pick the white-ball team for the Sri Lanka match. ,
He said, “As of now it doesn’t look like Rohit Sharma’s finger will be fully recovered before the T20 Internationals so in that case Hardik will lead the team. As far as KL Rahul is concerned, his T20 International days seem numbered. There is also a possibility that the T20 International team will have only specialists in that format. Some players like Virat Kohli may be given a break from the T20 format. The entire committee headed by Chetan was sacked following India’s semi-final exit from the T20 World Cup and the process of picking new selectors took longer than expected.
The official said, “Chetan and his committee are still watching domestic cricket. He watched the entire Vijay Hazare Trophy matches and also the first two rounds of the Ranji Trophy. Debashish Mohanty was present at Eden Gardens to watch the match between Bengal and Himachal Pradesh. He has got an extension of two months till December 25. Chetan and his midfield partner Harvinder Singh have reapplied for the selectors’ post which also includes Venkatesh Prasad, Nayan Mongia, Maninder Singh, Atul Wassan, Nikhil Chopra, Amay Khursiya, Gyanendra Pandey and Mukund Kumar.
