Chief Minister Yogi welcomed the Hockey World Cup trophy on reaching Lucknow
The trophy of the 15th Men’s Hockey World Cup, to be hosted by India from January 13 to 29, 2023, has reached Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow for the viewing of sports lovers. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath unveiled the trophy on reaching Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. According to the statement issued here, Yogi Adityanath unveiled the trophy of Hockey Men’s Vara Cup-2023 at his official residence located at five Kalidas Marg here.
On this special occasion, the Chief Minister handed over the appointment letter to Lalit Upadhyay, a member of the bronze medal winning Indian team of Tokyo Olympics 2020, for appointment to the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police in Uttar Pradesh Police. Appreciating the sports contribution of Upadhyay, the Chief Minister said, “The state government is committed to promote sports and sportspersons in the state. Medal winners of various international competitions including Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games are being provided opportunities for government services.
Expressing happiness over the Hockey World Cup trophy reaching UP, the Chief Minister said that the entire country was looking forward to host the Hockey World Cup in Odisha, the holy land of Lord Jagannath. He said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this Hockey Mahakumbh would also be an opportunity for the world to get acquainted with the spirit of India’s Atithi Devo Bhava. Yogi also congratulated Hockey India for the successful conduct of the World Cup.
The Chief Minister said, “A new sports culture is developing in India and Indian players are creating new history in various international sports events. Hockey is our national game and India has a glorious past in hockey on the global stage. We have won eight gold medals in the Olympics.” On this occasion, Minister of State for Sports and Youth Welfare (Independent Charge) Girish Chandra Yadav, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Home and Information Sanjay Prasad, Sports Director RP Singh, Information Director Shishir and other government officials. Senior officers were present.
