Chitrawal triple jump, Sable and Parul set national records in 5000 meters
Triple jumper Praveen Chitrawal created a national record by achieving the qualifying standard for the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Cuba, while Avinash Sable and Parul Chowdhary won the men’s and women’s 5000 meters respectively in the ongoing track event in the US. Made a national record in running. Chitrawal topped the ‘V Prueba de Confrontación 2023 Competition’ in Havana, Cuba with a jump of 17.37m. He improved Ranjit Maheshwari’s national record of 17.30m set in 2016 in the World Athletics ‘F’ category event.
The 21-year-old Chitrawal also breached the qualifying standard of 17.20m for the 2023 Budapest World Athletics Championships. His earlier personal best was 17.18m which he had achieved while winning the gold medal at the National Inter-State Athletics Championships in Chennai last year. His effort of 17.37m is the second longest jump by an athlete without the aid of wind in the current season. Chitraval is currently training in Cuba under the supervision of coach Yoandri Betanjos. World Junior Championships medalist T Selva Prabhu finished fourth in the same event with an effort of 16.58m.
Practicing with Chitraval, the player also broke the Under-20 national record. Sable and Parul on Saturday set national records in men’s and women’s 5000 meters at the ‘World Athletics Continental Tour Silver Level Event Sound Running Track Festival’ in Los Angeles, USA. Sable clocked 13:19.30 to better his earlier national record (13:25:65). However, he finished 12th in the event. Parul finished ninth with a timing of 15:10:35.
He broke Preeja Sreedharan’s 13-year-old record. Preja’s national record was 15:15.89. Sable’s favorite event is the 3000m steeplechase. Its national record is in his name only. He has already qualified for the men’s 3000m steeplechase event at the 2023 World Athletics Championships. Both Sable and Parul are practicing in the US. Chitrawal, Sable and Parul are all three athletes associated with Inspire Institute of Sports (IIS).
