Coach Nushin Al Khadeer said the World Cup win shows that there is no dearth of talent in India

After India’s Under-19 women’s cricket team lifted its maiden ICC trophy, head coach Nushin Al Khadeer said here on Sunday that the country was waiting for this moment for a long time. He said that this victory shows that there is no dearth of talent in India. The Indian women’s team lifted the ICC trophy for the first time after defeating England by seven wickets in the final of the Under-19 T20 World Cup on Sunday.

Nushin said after the match, “It is a great feeling. This is the realization that we have been waiting for a very long time. This is the first time we have won the (World) Cup and it has come with the U-19 kids. It shows the kind of depth we have in terms of talent and what our future looks like.” India lost just one match during their campaign in this World Cup. The team was defeated by Australia by seven wickets in the ‘Super Six’ stage.

Nushin said, “The most important thing in this team is the belief not to waver. I knew he did poorly against Australia. After that, however, the way the team played together was fantastic. We tried to keep things very simple. We had a feeling that we would get through it in our own way.

He said, “From the national anthem to becoming the champion, we had goosebumps. I personally feel and understand how special it is for us.” India skipper Shafali Verma lauded the support staff for supporting the team. “I am happy with the way the girls (players) performed and supported each other,” she said during the award ceremony. It’s an unbelievable feeling. Thanks to the supporting team members. The way they are supporting us everyday and telling us that we are here for the Cup. Because of them we are here.

The Indian captain said, “I got very good support from the players. I would like to thank the BCCI for entrusting me with the responsibility of this wonderful team. Shafali did not get many runs in this tournament with the bat but her opening partner Shweta Sehrawat emerged as the highest run-scorer with 297 runs at an average of 99.

Shefali said, “She (Shweta Sehrawat) has been fantastic and has followed all the plans of the team. Not just her, Archana, Soumya and everyone showed incredible game.” Another senior player of the team, Richa Ghosh, said that this victory will give the senior team the confidence to win the title in the T20 World Cup to be held next month. Richa said, “It is a great feeling. I have been waiting for this moment for many years. All the players have good positive energy, I really enjoyed being with them. If we can win the World Cup with the senior team as well, it would be great.”

Fast bowler Titas Sadhu, who was adjudged Player of the Match for taking two wickets in four overs in the match, said, “It is a really great feeling. Been waiting for this day for a long time. We had a plan in mind, and thankfully we executed what we had planned. The spinners backed up really well.
