‘Confetti Cannon’ will be used instead of champagne for celebration in Formula E race
The top three finishers of Formula E racing in India on Saturday will replace champagne with ‘confetti cannons’ to celebrate victory. Colorful pieces of paper or bright polythene come out of the ‘confetti cannon’. It is a decades-old tradition in motor sports to celebrate a victory by popping a bottle of champagne. ‘PTI-Bhasha’, however, has learned that keeping in view the ‘local customs’, all stakeholders of the Hyderabad race, promoter Greenco, Government of Telangana, Formula E and its champagne sponsor ‘Moet & Chandon’ have decided not to serve the beverage on the podium. Champagne is usually mixed with alcohol, and in countries that follow Islam, this celebration is celebrated with a drink that does not contain alcohol. Ahead of the race, drivers raised concerns about the track’s dangerous third turn.
