Czech Republic pair won Australian Open women’s doubles title

Melbourne. Czech Republic’s Katarina Siniakova and Barbora Krejcikova won the Australian Open women’s doubles title by defeating Japan’s Shuko Aoyama and Ana Shibahara 6-4, 6-3 on Sunday. With this win, the Czech Republic pair has extended their winning campaign in Grand Slam tournaments to 24 matches. This is his seventh Grand Slam doubles title. They broke the Japanese pair in the opening games of both the sets. The Czech Republic pair had won the women’s doubles title at the Australian Open, French Open and US Open last year.

Siniakova said after the title win, “Many thanks to my partner Barbora. I am very happy that we were able to win the title again. It’s been a wonderful journey.” Aoyama and Shibahara were playing in their 10th final but their first at a Grand Slam tournament. Shibahara said, “It was a very close match but definitely our opposition team played well. It was a different kind of experience. I think we will do better next time.
