Country’s top runners would like to secure Asian Games ticket from New Delhi Marathon

India’s top runners including Srinu Bugatha, A Beliappa and Jyoti Singh Gawate will compete in the New Delhi Marathon here on February 26 with an aim to qualify for the Asian Games to be held in China later this year. Jyoti had won the title last year with a timing of three hours one minute and 20 seconds. She will be out to defend her title. Organized under the aegis of Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and Fit India Race, the event will start from the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and end here.

The run will pass through prominent landmarks in the city like Humayun’s Tomb, Lodhi Garden and Khan Market. The AFI had already announced that the New Delhi Marathon would be part of the Asian Games qualifying event series. “The performance of the athletes in this national marathon will be considered for selection/participation in the Asian Games to be held in China, provided they meet the qualifying standards set by the AFI,” the national federation said.

“The qualifying time of two hours 15 minutes for men and two hours 37 minutes for women has been kept to be selected for the marathon event of the Asian Games,” he said. Runners who do not make the cut will participate in the open category of the Apollo Tires New Delhi Marathon. Runners will participate in four categories of Marathon, Half Marathon, 10 Km and 5 Km.
