Court directs Kabaddi Federation administrator to notify elections in three months

The Delhi High Court on Friday directed the Administrator of the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) to conduct elections to the sports body within three months. The court said that the elections to the governing body should be notified as per its directions, including ‘age and tenure restrictions’ on the members. The court emphasized that the provisions of the National Sports Code should apply to the AKFI as well as all the units under it.

It states that if the state and district associations want to remain members of the AKFI, they will have to amend their constitution in accordance with the sports code. Especially the rules related to age and tenure have to be strictly followed. In the 32-page judgement, Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva said, “Representatives of state associations of national federations and representatives of district associations of state associations – bodies if they do not comply with the ‘age and tenure restrictions’ imposed by the Sports Code. They shall not be included in the Electoral College and shall also be disqualified from contesting any office of the Executive Committee and from voting at such election.
