Cristia defeats Sabalenka in Miami

Sorena Kristia stormed into the semi-finals of a WTA 1000 tennis event for the first time in a decade after defeating Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets at the Miami Open. Cristia defeated second seed Sabaleka 6-4, 6-4. Sabalenka is the top-ranked player who has been beaten by Krystia. Cristia had earlier this month defeated No. 4 seed Caroline Garcia in Indian Wells and then upset Garcia in the second round in Miami.

The Romanian world number 74, who has won two singles titles in her career, will next face the winner of the match between Petra Kvitova and Ekaterina Alexandrova. The match between Kvitova and Alexandrova was scheduled for Wednesday night but was postponed to Thursday due to rain. The match between top-ranked men’s player Carlos Alcarez and No. 10 Taylor Fritz was also postponed. In the men’s section, number 11 player Yannick Sinner defeated Emil Rusuvori 6-3, 6-1.
