Bangladesh won the only Test match against Ireland by seven wickets

Mirpur. Experienced Mushfiqur Rahim’s brilliant batting helped Bangladesh win by seven wickets shortly after lunch on the fourth day of the one-off Test against Ireland here on Friday. Ireland scored 214 runs in the first innings, in reply to which Bangladesh took a strong lead by scoring 369 runs. Ireland scored 292 runs in their second innings and thus set a target of 138 runs in front of Bangladesh. Bangladesh achieved this target by losing three wickets. Rahim, who scored 126 in the first innings, scored an unbeaten 51 in the second innings.

Apart from him, Mominul Haque scored 20 not out. Liton Das gave the team a good start by playing a flamboyant innings of 23 runs. Tamim Iqbal contributed 31 runs. Earlier, Ireland extended their second innings to 286 for six and Bangladesh took the remaining four wickets in 36 minutes. Fast bowler Ibadat Hossain bowled Andy McBrine who could only add one run to his yesterday’s score.

McBrine scored 72, his career best score. It didn’t take long for Ireland’s innings to collapse after his dismissal. Lorcan Tucker’s century was the highlight of Ireland’s second innings. He scored 108 runs in 162 balls. He became the second Irish batsman after Kevin O’Brien to score a century on his Test debut.
