Delhi coach Abhay Sharma may be sacked, selector Khoda expressed disappointment over suspension

The Delhi and District Cricket Association’s (DDCA) Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), headed by Nikhil Chopra, Gursharan Singh and Reema Malhotra, is all set to sack head coach Abhay Sharma after the team’s dismal performance in the Ranji Trophy matches. The Delhi team has just two points from four matches and is in danger of finishing last in the group stage. The dismal performance of the team has put former Railways captain Abhay’s judgment under question and none of the top brass in DDCA is happy with him.

A senior DDCA director told ‘PTI-Bhasha’ on the condition of confidentiality, “Abhay also cannot escape criticism after being ousted by the selection committee as he is equally responsible for such a defeat.” The selectors do select the team but the role of the coach is important in selecting the playing XI from that team. However, many in DDCA believe that it was a wrong decision.

Hurt at being dropped as DDCA chief selector, Gagan Khoda on Friday said he was disappointed and surprised at not getting a chance to give his perspective on Delhi’s debacle in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. Khoda was sacked by DDCA’s Cricket Advisory Committee chairman Rohan Jaitley along with fellow selectors Mayank Sidhana and Anil Bhardwaj. Disappointed with the decision, Khoda told PTI, “I don’t really need any money from DDCA. I am an outsider and I did not know any academy or camp or how cricket is run in Delhi. I really wanted to make a difference. But I was not given a chance to understand things. “Khoda, who was a member of the national selection committee, said,” I was made a selector a week before the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
