Dhoni did not practice due to left knee injury, CSK CEO said captain will play

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s left knee injury put him in doubt for the first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) against Gujarat Titans here on Friday but the team’s CEO (Chief Executive Officer ) has denied any such possibility. Former India captain Dhoni, 41, suffered an injury to his left knee during a practice session in Chennai. He did not bat during practice at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera here on Thursday.

When asked about CSK CEO Kashi Vishwanathan, he told ‘PTI-Bhasha’, “As far as I am concerned, the captain will play 100 percent.” I am not aware of any further developments.” If Dhoni does not play, CSK can hand over the wicketkeeping duties to either Devon Conway or Ambati Rayudu as they do not have a specialist wicketkeeper. Dhoni does a lot of practice before the season, but avoids doing much practice just before the start of the tournament to conserve his energy. At this age, there is a problem of early injury to the player, in such a situation, Dhoni would not want to take much risk in view of the long season.
