Djokovic tops ATP rankings, Sabalenka second in WTA

Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic moved to the top once again, dethroning Carlos Alcaraz in the latest ATP rankings released on Monday. Djokovic was previously ranked fifth and this is the biggest jump to the top spot in the 50-year history of the computerized rankings. This will be the 374th week with the top ranking for Djokovic. Djokovic defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3 7-6(4) 7-6(5) in the men’s singles final on Sunday to win his 10th Australian Open Championship and a record-equalling 22nd Grand Slam title.

Aryan Sabalenka, who won the title in the women’s section, moved up from fifth in the WTA rankings to match her career-best ranking of second. She is now behind three-time Grand Slam winner Iga Swiatek. Sabalenka won the first Grand Slam of her career by defeating Elena Rybakina 4–6, 6–3, 6–4 in the final of the Australian Open. Ons Jabouyer, who reached the final of the Grand Slam twice last year, slipped from second to third. Jessica Pegula, Caroline Garcia and Coco Gauff are on the fourth, fifth and sixth positions respectively.

Rybakina, who lost to Sabalenka in the final, moved into the top 10 from No. 25. In the ATP rankings, Alcaraz slipped to second while veteran Rafael Nadal slipped from second to sixth. Tsitsipas, however, moved up one place to third. Had he beaten Djokovic in the final, he would have topped the rankings.
