Sabalenka became Australian Open women’s champion

Aryna Sabalenka won her maiden Grand Slam title on Saturday, defeating Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in the women’s singles final of the Australian Open. The 24-year-old player from Belarus made a stunning comeback after losing the first set to beat Rybakina 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 at Melbourne Park here. He committed seven double faults but hit 17 aces in his 51 winners. Sabalenka has had a great year so far. He has won all his 11 matches.

During this, he also won two titles in his name. Ryabkina scored seven break points in the match against Sabalenka’s 13 break points. Sabalenka also lost the first set of the season in the final against Rybakina. Kazakhstan’s Rybakina saw off a challenge from top seed Iga Swiatek in the fourth round of the tournament but could not continue her good start into the final. Sabalenka had reached the semifinals of Grand Slam three times before, but with her first championship, she will move to second in the rankings. After falling behind in the first set, Sabalenka started to turn the match in the second set and won the match which lasted almost two and a half hours.
