Doubt over Jadeja’s fitness till Bangladesh Test series, Suryakumar may get a chance

The chances of veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to be fully fit ahead of the Bangladesh Test series starting December 14 in Chittagong are slim. This information was given by the source of the Indian Cricket Board. With India having three options in the form of debutant off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, left-arm spinner Akshar Patel and left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav, there is hardly a need for a fourth specialist spinner in the team. If the team management wants a spinner all-rounder like Jadeja, then the option would be India A bowler Saurabh Kumar.

There is speculation that the new selection committee or the Indian team management (in case the new committee is not formed by then) would like to test Suryakumar Yadav’s stellar form in the longer format of the game. India have two Tests and three ODIs to play in Bangladesh and a strong team led by Rohit Sharma is ready to tour the neighboring country. India will play two Tests in Chittagong from December 14-18 and Mirpur from December 22-26, followed by a three-match ODI series in the first week of next month.

Jadeja underwent knee surgery after the Asia Cup in UAE and was ruled out of the team indefinitely. A BCCI source said on condition of anonymity, “Jadeja has visited the NCA on several occasions for his check-ups and rehab. As of now, it is unlikely that he will be fit for the Bangladesh series. The former selection committee headed by Chetan Sharma, however, kept him in the team with the condition of regaining fitness. Saurabh was part of the Test team during the series against Sri Lanka earlier this year. He took five wickets against New Zealand A in the ‘A’ Test series at Bangalore.
