The opening match of the tournament will be played in Multan, in which hosts Pakistan will take on Nepal and the final will be held in Colombo on 17 September. what is the program

The original draft schedule prepared by the PCB (host board) has already been tweaked several times, mainly because of the recent six-nation tournament to be played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka based on the hybrid model approved by the ACC. It was further informed that all the 13 matches of the tournament are scheduled to start at 1:00 PM Pakistan Standard Time (1:30 PM IST). Pakistan is placed in Group A along with India and Nepal, while Group B consists of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super Four stage and the top two teams from this stage will advance to the finals. The Asia Cup, which will be played in the 50-over format this time, is essentially preparation for five of the six teams, except Nepal, for the ODI World Cup starting October 5 in India.

Pakistan’s demand

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will make a demand for hosting more than four matches of the Asia Cup in Pakistan at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting to be held in Dubai on Sunday. All stakeholders, including the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the PCB, had accepted a ‘hybrid model’ for the Asia Cup following which the ACC announced that four matches of the tournament, to be played between August 31 and September 17, would be held in Pakistan while Nine matches will be played in Sri Lanka. The ‘hybrid model’ was proposed because the BCCI had made it clear that it would not send its team to Pakistan given the strained relations between India and Pakistan.
