Rosie Meena Paulraj reclaims national record in women’s pole vault

Tamil Nadu’s Rosie Meena Paulraj broke the national record for women’s pole vault for the second time in 15 days with a gold medal at the National Open Athletics Championships here on Saturday. Twenty-five-year-old Rosie had recently set a national record with a height of 4.20 meters at the 36th National Games in Gandhinagar. She then broke VS Surekha’s national record of 4.15m in 2014.

Rosie achieved a height of 4.21 meters here on Saturday. Raveena of Railways, after a disappointing performance in the last few competitions, regained the momentum here to clinch the women’s 20km walk with a new meet record. In the absence of Amlan Borgohain, 19-year-old Shivam Vaishnav from Delhi ensured that the 100m men’s sprint remains competitive. She clocked 10.74 s in the first round but improved it with a time of 10.47 s to top the semi-finals to qualify for the final.In the women’s section, Hima Das remained in the running for the title with timings of 11.74 seconds and 11.78 seconds in the opening two rounds while Jyoti Yarraji could not finish the race of the opening race.
