Fact Check: UP government plans to name Yamuna Expressway after former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee

New Delhi: The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government is likely to rename the Yamuna Expressway after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The political turmoil regarding the expressway in UP may intensify further in the coming days due to this development. In Uttar Pradesh, the name of many places has been changed. Many railway stations have been renamed. ( express way name changed )

Expressway named after Vajpayee

According to a report in LiveHindustan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to make a formal announcement of renaming Yamuna Expressway on November 25 at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the Noida International Airport in Jewar. Meanwhile, the UP Chief Minister’s Office has denied any proposal to change the name of the expressway. Some time back PM Modi inaugurated Yamuna Expressway.

Cricket stadium name changed in Lucknow ( express way name changed )

Earlier, the UP government had renamed the Ekana International Cricket Stadium in the state capital Lucknow as Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Cricket Stadium in November 2018 soon after Vajpayee’s death. Yamuna Expressway has a length of 165 kms and is six lanes wide. The highway was inaugurated on 9 August 2012 by Akhilesh Yadav of Samajwadi Party, the then Chief Minister of the state.
