Australia beat world champion team England, Warner and Smith played stormy innings

Adelaide. With the help of big half-centuries from experienced David Warner and Steve Smith, Australia defeated England by six wickets in the first ODI cricket match here on Thursday, beating Dawid Malan’s century. Malan played an attractive inning of 134 runs off 128 balls which included 12 fours and four sixes.

 

However, he did not get help from the other end, due to which England could only manage 287 runs for nine wickets when they were invited to bat first. Australia’s top-order batsmen David Warner (86), Travis Head (69) and Steve Smith (80 not out) scored half-centuries to take an early lead in the three-match series by scoring 291 for four in 46.5 overs. Warner and Head got off to a good start for the Australian team, playing their first ODI under Pat Cummins after the retirement of Aaron Finch. Both of them laid a strong foundation by sharing 147 runs for the first wicket.

 

Later Smith handled the responsibility well. Warner and Head hit the same 10 fours and a six in their innings while Smith’s innings included nine fours and a six. Earlier, England’s innings revolved around Malan. He lost wickets at regular intervals as he failed to reach 300 runs. The second highest score after Malan was number nine batsman David Willey (34 not out). For Australia, fast bowler Cummins and spinner Adam Jampa took three wickets each.
