Fast bowler Mohammed Shami out of Bangladesh ODI due to injury, Umran Malik included in the team

New Delhi. Pacer Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the ODI series against Bangladesh starting on Sunday with a shoulder injury and Umran Malik has been named as his replacement. The Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) gave this information on Saturday. Shami had injured himself during the practice session after returning from Australia. He is also doubtful for the two-Test series starting December 14 in Chittagong. BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a press release, “Fast bowler Mohammed Shami got injured during the practice session ahead of the ODI series against Bangladesh. He has injured his shoulder and is currently under the observation of the BCCI medical team at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. He will not be able to play in the three-match ODI series. The All India Selection Committee has included Umran Malik in the team in place of Shami. The seriousness of Shami’s injury was not known. The fast bowler from Bengal is an integral part of the Indian team in this format keeping in mind the ODI World Cup to be held next year. Shami himself posted some pictures on Twitter in which he is undergoing treatment for a shoulder injury. He tweeted, “Injury teaches you to enjoy every moment. If Shami misses the Test series, it will be a matter of concern for skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid as India need to win every match to keep alive their hopes of reaching the final of the World Test Championship.

BCCI sources said, “Shami being ruled out of the ODI series is a matter of concern but if he is ruled out of the Test series then it will be a big concern as he has to lead the Indian bowling in Test matches in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. Shami has taken 216 wickets in 60 Tests so far.
