FIFA World Cup 2022: Spain beat Japan, qualified for round 16

Doha. Japan came back from a goal down and scored two early in the second half to seal a 2-1 win over Spain late on Thursday to qualify for the FIFA World Cup round of 16.

O Tanaka scored the winning goal for Japan early in the second half. It took two minutes for the officials to confirm the goal via video review. For Spain, Álvaro Morata gave his team the lead in the 11th minute. But Japan secured a 1–1 draw through Ritsu Doan’s 48th-minute goal. Japan had upset Germany by defeating Germany 2-1 in their group opener at the same Khalifa International Stadium.
