FIFA World Cup: Netherlands beat Senegal 2-0 in thrilling match, Gakpo and Klaasen scored goals

Cody Gakpo and substitute Davy Klaasen scored late goals to give the Netherlands a 2-0 win over Senegal at the World Cup on Monday. Frank de Jong created a brilliant chance for the Netherlands team in the 84th minute of the match, which Gakpo put into the goal-post to score the first goal of the match at the Al Thumama Stadium here. Klaasen doubled the team’s lead in stoppage time (90+8 minutes).

The match began as the stadium reverberated with traditional Senegalese drums and cheers from the crowd as the South African team, in the absence of front-line legend Sadio Mane, held the Netherlands to a screeching halt for the opening 83 minutes . Senegal’s forward line held up the Netherlands with several attacks but goalkeeper Andries Knoppert made three brilliant saves in his first match for the national team.
