Congress is in competition in four states!

In all the assembly elections to be held from now till the Lok Sabha elections, except one in Uttar Pradesh, Congress and BJP have to fight face to face. In all the states except Uttar Pradesh, the Congress is either in government or the main opposition party. Till the Lok Sabha elections, in all the states in which there are assembly elections, regional parties are either not there or have a very minor status. Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress and Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party, which are clamoring to replace the Congress, also do not have any special status in these states.

Elections to five states have just been announced, in which the Congress is a marginalized party in Uttar Pradesh. But the Congress is in government in Punjab and it is the main opposition party in Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa. The way Congress is a marginalized party in Uttar Pradesh, similarly BJP is a marginalized party in Punjab and despite all efforts, BJP is yet to find a foothold in the state. It is necessary that due to the anger of Congress, Captain Amarinder Singh is trying to strengthen the BJP by wasting his political deposits and the remaining political future of himself and his family, but it is difficult to get success.

As far as Goa and Manipur are concerned, Congress had won in both these states in the last elections. In Goa, BJP lost badly. After running an absolute majority government for five years, winning 21 seats in the 2012 assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party could win just 12 seats in the state in the 2017 elections. And the Congress, which won nine seats in the 2012 election, won 17 seats. That is, the seat of BJP was halved and that of Congress was doubled. Still, the Congress could not stand before the manipulations of the BJP and the defeated BJP formed the government.

The BJP had performed well in Manipur, yet its seats were far less than the Congress. Congress had reached near majority even after losing. It had got 28 seats in the 60-member assembly, but the BJP, which won 21 seats, forcibly formed the government there and since then it has been continuously breaking the Congress party. In the elections held five years ago, the BJP had won in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, lost badly in Punjab and Goa and fell far short of a majority in Manipur as well. Congress, on the other hand, lost in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand and won in Punjab, Goa and Manipur.
