Madrid Masters: Sindhu in final for the first time in a year

Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu stormed into the final of an event for the first time this year with a straight-game win over Singapore’s Yeo Jia Min in the Madrid Spain Masters Super 300 badminton tournament, here on Saturday. Second seed Sindhu defeated her lower-ranked Singaporean 24-22, 22-20 in the women’s singles semi-finals. The win moved his record against Min to 4-0.

In the first game, Sindhu was trailing 15-20 at one point but she showed great resilience and saved seven game points to take the first game. In the second game, Sindhu was initially trailing 1-4 but made a good comeback to lead 11-6 at the interval. World No. 33 Min then made a comeback and leveled the score at 17-17.

Sindhu had two match points after that but Min saved both of them. After this, when the Indian player got the third match point, he did not make any mistake in winning it. In the final, she will take on local player and the winner of the other semi-final match between top seed Carolina Marin and Gregoria Tunjung of Indonesia.
