Ashes test: Carey doesn’t regret dismissing Jonny Bairstow at Lord’s

Manchester. Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey has no regrets for controversially stumping Jonny Bairstow at Lord’s and said he too has been dismissed like this before. The manner in which Carey dismissed Bairstow in the second Ashes Test had sparked controversy and many experts termed it against the spirit of the game. On the fourth day of the match, Bairstow came out of the crease after leaving all-rounder Cameron Green’s bouncer thinking that the ball was a ‘dead ball’ but Carey hit the wickets and thus the batsman was stumped.

“I’ve been out like this on a few occasions and I’ve tried to get batsmen out like this before,” Carey said in Manchester ahead of the fourth Ashes Test. That’s how I got out in my first A-grade match in Australia. I had then left the crease. I was disappointed but then my captain came up to me and he said next time you remember to keep your feet at the crease. Australia won the match but the England audience booed them fiercely. “We got some reactions right away,” Carey said. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I fully respect that. Similarly, everyone is entitled to give their opinion on the spirit of the game.
