French Open: Yuki-Saket in second round, Bopanna-Ebden lost

Paris. Indian men’s doubles pair of Yuki Bhambri and Saketh Myneni defeated French pair of Arthur Rinderneck and Enzo Sossaud in straight sets in the first round of the French Open tennis tournament here on Wednesday. Yuki and Saketh, who won the Bangkok Open Challenger in January this year, ousted Arthur and Enzo 6-3, 6-2 in 64 minutes in their opening match. However, India’s star player Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden failed to cross the first round hurdle.

The pair went down 5-7 6-7 (5-7) against the French pair of Sadio Dombia and Fabien Rebol. The Indo-Australian pair, who reached the finals of the Madrid Open this year besides victories at the BNP Paribas Open and Qatar Open, saved five match points but could not prevent the French pair from registering a win. The Indian pair of N Sriram Balaji and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan also bowed out after losing 3-6 4-6 to Ilya Ivashka of Belarus and Alexey Popirin of Australia in the first round.
