Gill said it feels good when the captain asks you to show your natural game

Guwahati. India’s young opener Shubman Gill is happy to have the support of skipper Rohit Sharma and the team management, who have allowed him to play his natural game in the first ODI against Sri Lanka. Rohit preferred Gill over Ishan Kishan to open the innings and the young batsman justified his faith by scoring 70 off 60 balls. Gill said, “It feels good when your captain supports you. Even in the practice sessions, we talked about the same thing that I have to show my natural game. I would like to maintain that rhythm. Gill scored 638 runs in 12 innings in 2022, including a century and four half-centuries.

On his rapport with Rohit at the top of the order, he said, “We have mainly batted in Tests. It is good to bat with him. We talk about which batsman to target and how to score runs quickly.” On missing out on a century, he said, “Of course I am disappointed that I got out for 70.” I worked very hard to play big innings. I got out in the 20th over after that there were 30 more overs to play.” In reply, Sri Lanka were 179 for seven but Dasun Shanaka scored an unbeaten 108 to take the score to 306 for eight. Holding dew responsible for this, Gill said, “I don’t think bowling is a cause of concern.” We bowled well and took eight of his wickets. There was also dew which made bowling not easy. Both Yuji and Akshar bowled well but at times the ball gets wet.
