Joshi, Chaurasia, Pranvi and Avni qualify for Asian Games

Bengaluru’s Pranavi Urs and amateur Avani Prashant shot an equal total of 10-under 206 to finish joint first in the trials here to qualify for the golf competition at the Asian Games to be held in China in September this year. India’s star golfer Aditi Ashok had already made it to the Asian Games team. In this way, now three Indian players in women’s golf will present their challenge in the Asian Games. Pranavi was one shot behind Avni after the second round at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club but shot a three-under 69 in the final round despite bogeying the 17th hole.

Avni bogeyed the final hole and eventually finished joint first with Pranavi. In the men’s section, Khalin Joshi carded a four-under 68 in the final round to end at 13-under 203 after 54 holes. SSP Chaurasia also carded a 68 in the final round and shot a total of 11-under 205 to finish second and qualify for the Asian Games. Besides Joshi and Chawrasia, who participated in the 2016 Olympics, the men’s team will have Anirban Lahiri and Shubhankar Sharma representing India’s challenge at the Asian Games.
